AstraSync: ActiveSync comes to Blackberry

, posted: 19-Jul-2008 10:14

Coming this month is a new application that means Blackberry devices no longer need to link with BIS (Blackberry Internet Service) or BES (Blackberry Enterprise Server). AstraSynch allows Blackberry handsets to use the ActiveSynch/DirectPush push synchronization capabilities built into Exchange Server 2007 in a similar basis to the way in which Windows Mobiles and iPhones do already.

It is envisaged that this, the first version of AstraSynch, will have limited flexibility. It is however likely to attract attention of those without Blackberry Enterprise Server infrastructure in place - or organisations wishing to avoid the costs associated BES installation, support and licensing. Standard pricing for AstraSynch is US$49 for a single mailbox.
