Blackberry patching: Don't leave it a minute longer

, posted: 22-Jul-2008 09:47

If you have or support any Blackberry Enterprise Servers it is critically important that you make sure the latest service pack is installed - or the patch issued at the end of last week. Without it you leave your network very vulnerable - RIM rated the security issue that arose last week as a 9 (out of 10). If left unpatched, you're potentially leaving your network wide open to major abuse.

Refer to article KB15766 on the Blackberry.com support site for more info, and to download the latest service pack:

The workaround is to turn off attachment support until you can download and install this update.

Below are the installation instructions for the patch from RIM. If that's too hard you can just install the latest service pack which will upgrade these files as part of the installation process.

Warning: If you incorrectly change the installation directory and the files contained in the directory, serious problems might occur. Use the command prompt to change the installation directory and the files contained in the directory at your own risk and only if you are confident in your ability to successfully make the changes.
