There's been a lot of interest in the sucessor to Exchange Server 2007 since Microsoft announced the TAP (Technology Adoption Programme) for Exchnage Server 14 last year. It now seems likely that the Exchange Server 2010 will be released to manufacturing between late September and mid-late Q4 2009.

Feaures slated for the new release include:
- An updated OWA (Outlook Web Access) client that provides equal functionality in Firefox and Safari as is provided in Internet Explorer
- Outlook experience improved with a new threaded conversation view, filtering, MailTips to warm about common mistakes, integrated instant messaging, and new mobility features
- Enhanced Unified Messaging with text-based preview of voice mail messages and personalized voice mail menu capabilities for inbound call forwarding
- Built-in archiving functions plus enhanced compliance and retention policy management with message classification and discovery
- Expanded messaging security tools for protecting e-mail and voice mail confidentially
- A role-based security model that enables delegation of administrative tasks, like creating e-mail distribution lists or conducting cross-mailbox searches for legal discovery
- Continuous Replication technology evolved to support 16 replicated copies of each mailbox database and Exchange managed clustering
- Right Management improvements with functionality supported within OWA
- Ability to move mailboxes from Server to Server without taking the mailbox user offline
