This week (Episode 6) was a busy one on the NZ Tech Podcast. Today Microsoft have for the first time publicly shared indepth information of the large scale update to Windows Phone 7 expected to be available globally in the September-November timeframe. A few dramas popped up this week and it seemed like last weeks claim that the NZ Tech Podcast was now a weekly show wouldn't be true. Fortunately things came together and am I pleased to present episode 5.

iPad 2 New Zealand launch

This afternoon I was at YooBee in Newmarket, Auckland as the iPad 2 was launched in New Zealand. As Apple themselves don't have a store here in NZ, YooBee has established itself as the biggest retailer for consumers to buy Apple gadgets. The new iPad was in strong demand with hundreds of people lining up to get their hands on this, the newest Apple product to hit New Zealand. It seems the rain wasn't much of a deterrent. Windows 8 to support both ARM and x86 'System on a Chip' architectures

At a press conference held in Las Vegas in conjunction with the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2011 Microsoft have just announced that the next version of Windows will support 'System on a Chip' architectures from Intel, AMD, and ARM. The big news as was leaked in recent weeks is that a full version of Windows will run on non-Intel x86 chips.Previously the relationship and successes of Microsoft Windows and Intel have been very closedly tied - and hence the term 'Wintel' was coined. Windows Small Business Server 2011 (SBS 2011) finalised

After being available for a number months in beta and release candidate form - Microsoft have finished off work on the Standard Edition of SBS 2011 (and the Premium add on). The product has today officially reached release to manufacturing (aka RTM) stage. General availability will be sometime in the new year - OEMs receive it January, and new servers bundled with SBS 2011 should appear in February or March. News has been floating around various gadget blogs today regarding new Windows Phone 7 devices from Sony Ericsson. While it's been confirmed by Sony Ericsson that their focus for 2011 will be on Windows Phone 7 and Android, there have been no official announcements regarding WP7 handsets. The images are fairly self explanatory since they include apparent device specs. What is unusual and makes the specs more likely to be bogus are certain specs such dual-core 1.2ghz CPU in the Sony Ericsson Xper (read the entire post)...

Microsoft have confirmed via an online event posting that the global launch of Windows Phone 7 will take place on 11 October 2010.
